create shade and sustainable energy in italian Gardens
The search for practical ecological solutions to the world's energy crisis is a subject of much discussion with huge investment and research now being seen in many countries, as the race to offer an alternative solution to the planet's energy crisis. Our history has taught us, it is often the most practical and simple ideas that can offer the answers to the most complicated of problems. Take, for example, the way man captured strong winds in a simple sail, enabling him to travel the high seas and create successful trade routes. The same principal allowed people to grind vast amounts of grain into flour by using windmills. These were just the first innovations that are now considered to be 'common sens' solutions to our problems.
The solution to many of today's problems seems to lie in the natural world and this most certainly applies to the problem of providing renewable energy sources. When one thinks that in just 60 minutes our planet receives energy from the sun, equivalent to the total energy requirements of the entire planet it becomes clear that there has to be a simple way of tapping into that huge natural energy resource, using a simple logic.
I am a garden designer, based in Italy and I thankfully i am seeing the first realistic efforts to link the home with the surrounding landscape and allow each to work for one another. The concept of providing shade with the 'Italian pergola' is nothing new, as it has been providing shade in Italian gardens since Roman times. However, an Italian pergola that shades you from the suns rays yet also captures them has to be an innovation! New solar patio covers convert the energy raining down on us from the sun in to a natural, sustainable energy. Therefore, this has to be another great simple solution to an age old problem- that of saving the environment and easing the pain of rising fuel bills!
Pergolas and the roofs of garden out-buildings can now be fitted with modern solar panels that will lower fuel bills, heat swimming pools and even illuminate trees and garden statues within your garden space. They are available in a range of designs and they can be adapted to your requirements or garden style.
ECOLOGICAL SHADE
Certain solar panels can create electricity and others just provide intelligent shading near the house that can reduce air-conditioning costs if you insist on using such a thing.
There are now some very intelligent patio covers constructed from recycled aluminum and they can be opened or closed at the touch of a button. The style of these new solar patio covers lends itself to a modern Italian house and suits the minimalist nature of modern Italian interiors perfectly .
Isnt it about time that we did something?
