Online garden design and its advantages to the client
Online garden design, although a relatively new concept, can have many advantages for clients looking to create a new garden. Standard garden design practices require an initial site visit by the garden designer, which clearly incur physical costs to the client, i.e. travelling costs, time for discussing the wishes of the client and physical time spent at the site, evaluating and taking pictures of the site of the new garden . However, garden designs performed online, clearly bypass these costs because there is no need for an initial site visit, no travelling and no need for time spent taking pictures of the new garden site. This can all be performed by the client, who can provide the online garden designer with a detailed profile of his/her requirements, detailed photographs and hopefully a detailed scale plan of the site.
The online garden designer can then establish an overview of the site just as effectively, without actually ever having to make costly site visits and begin laying down a conceptual idea for the garden that can then be sent to the client, either by e-mail or by using the standard postal service in the case of hand drawn designs. This ‘conceptual design’ generally shows the basic structural layout for the garden and what type of features/materials could be used, allowing the client to establish a general feel of the garden design before moving to the next stage of the online garden design process- the planting plan.
Once a structural layout has been decided upon and agreed, the online garden designer can then begin designing the planting plan around the agreed structural layout, a copy of which can then be sent to the client for approval. When the planting plan has been approved the online garden designer can provide the client with a detailed planting plan with a planting list, showing precise plant species, varieties, cultivars and the colour schemes that will be used. If required, a maintenance schedule can be provided, showing the annual maintenance requirements all of the plants used in the planting plan.
At this stage the client will have all the information necessary to complete the realisation of the online garden design and transform it into the new garden, with all the professional online help necessary from the online garden designer, by means of e-mails and telephone calls, if required.
